Our involvement with this task was both as Designer and Site Supervisor for the Investor. Apart from the bridge itself, the scope of work included 300m of road, overhead electric line, underground telecommunication line and road drainage. The bridge is in the form of reinforced concrete rigid frame, spans 8.0m and has the width of 9.6m. Along with the bridge, we designed two retaining walls.
The river under the bridge and in its proximity meanders greatly. That forced us to design proper strengthening of the river banks. The goal was achieved via retaining walls of steel sheet piles with concrete cap and gabions – boxes made of steel wire meshed together and filled with boulders.
The outlet of the drainage system is located under the bridge and goes through the abutment wall. The wall has a special cover made of stainless and acid-resistant steel, which protects concrete from aggressive waters flowing from the road surfaces
