Construction of road bridge over the Jeziorka river in Konstancin-Jeziorna along Mirkowska street

The design was prepared for the local road authorities in Piaseczno in the years 2007-2008. The new bridge, which is an arch-bridge type, was to replace the old one, a 3-span structure. The superstructure is made of steel and consists of two main horizontal girders with concrete slab and two arches. Both girders and arches have box cross sections - 0.90x0.6m and 0.8x0.6m respectively. The girders and arches are connected together with hangers made of high strength steel. The theoretical span of the bridge is L=42.0m, the axial spacing of arches and beams is 10.2m, the total width of the bridge is 15.3m, the height of arches above deck is 9.5m.

Interesting facts

On the elevation one can notice special wingwalls covering bearings. The curve of these wingwalls transfers straight into steel arch curvature, giving an interesting, architectural effect.

The erection of steel superstructure took place on the riverside, parallel to the river bank, then it was lifted up, rotated by 90 degrees and put onto bearings. The weight of the steel superstructure alone is 160 tonnes, which required quite a crane to do the job!

We provided a temporary pedestrian bridge for the duration of construction works. To reduce cost, we used trusses and beams from another old bridge that had been dismounted just prior to our design.
