In the spring of 2016 we designed a new pedestrian bridge which was part of a wider project called “Our green place in Wilanów”. It is a project where citizens themselves propose something for their districts and then officials put it under a general vote via the internet. Because the bridge was to be part of a new park, our goal was to invent something unique. The bridge is 10m long and in the top view it has the shape of a saddle – in the middle its width is 3.0m, on the ends it is 4.6m. The superstructure consists of two box cross section girders, shaped as arches in elevation and in top view. The balustrade is not typical either – it is made of vertical steel-plate balusters, which do not join with the top of the deck, but go down below the girders. The bottom ends are shaped as arches, imitating an arch-bridge structure
The deck and handrails are made of exotic wood Bangkirai and Iroko to ensure endurance for weathering and outside conditions.
