Reconstruction of a road bridge over the Zielona river in Żabieniec near Warsaw

In 2011 we worked on the design of reconstructing an old road bridge in Żabieniec. The new bridge was designed as a rigid frame of reinforced concrete, spanning 16.0m and being 11.3m wide. The deck is fixed in the abutments without bearings and expansion joints.

Interesting facts

The bridge is located in close proximity to fish ponds, from which the water is flushed out periodically. Because of this, the water level beneath the bridge can rise up by 3 metres in merely minutes!!

Below the deck there are special paths for migrating amphibians, surfaced with loose sand.

The bridge structure, being a rigid frame, forced us to include in the design changes in temperature that cause shrinking and elongating of the deck.
